FAQs about The Lobster Trap
There Are No Dumb Questions. But Some of These Come Close.
Frequently asked questions
Somehow, yes. Come for a family dinner at 6, come for a date night at 8, come for drinks with strangers at 10. We're versatile.
Whatever you wore on the ferry. This is Catalina — island casual is the dress code. Leave the tie on the mainland.
Avalon is one of the most beautiful spots on the California coast. We encourage you to explore it — then come inside where the food and drinks are waiting.
Yes. Every day. Rain, shine, or whatever the Pacific decides to throw at us. Catalina doesn't close and neither do we.
We open at 7 am for a reason. Come in, get some coffee, get some food, and start your island day the right way.
Locals have been answering that question the same way for years. We'll leave it at that.
Yes. Gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan guests are accommodated. We're not a specialty diet restaurant — we're a great restaurant that happens to take dietary needs seriously. Tell your server what you need and we'll work with you.
Since 2008. In island years, that's long enough to have served just about everyone who lives here — multiple times. Long enough that regulars have their usual orders, their usual seats, and their usual bartenders. That's not marketing. That's just what happens when you do things right and keep doing them right.
The Lobster Trap is one of the most experienced catering operations on Catalina Island, with a track record covering weddings, rehearsal dinners, corporate retreats, private parties, and large-scale celebrations across Avalon. Full-service catering available anywhere on the island. Inquire through our catering form.
We're open early, open late, and open every day. We have a full bar, a serious kitchen, a catering program, and a staff that actually loves what they do. We've been part of this island long enough to know what people want when they get off that ferry. Good food, a real drink, and zero attitude — except the fun kind.
Simple. Watch where the people who live here eat. Locals on a small island don't have the patience for mediocre food or tourist traps. They eat where the food is consistently great, the staff knows their name, and the bar pours a decent drink. Draw your own conclusions.
Both. But here's the tell — when the islanders, the boat captains, the dive instructors, the shop owners, and the folks who've called Catalina home for decades all end up at the same place at the end of the day, that's not a coincidence. That's a reputation.
Ask any local where to eat and drink in Avalon. Then come find us. We'll be here.
